The narrative centers on Michael (Christopher Abbott), a sheep farmer who is balancing the demands of managing the family farm while caring for his ailing and cantankerous father, Ray (Colm Meaney). In addition to these daily challenges, Michael harbors a dark secret from his past, which he is compelled to confront due to a family dispute with neighboring farmer Gary (Paul Ready) and his son Jack (Barry Keoghan). The performances in this film are outstanding, particularly that of Christopher Abbott as Michael. I was genuinely surprised to learn that Abbott is American, as his Irish accent seamlessly blends with those of the rest of the cast. He effectively conveys both Michael’s exhaustion and the simmering anger that lies just beneath the surface, ready to erupt. Colm Meaney and Barry Keoghan are excellently cast in their respective roles, delivering the high-caliber performances one would anticipate from such talented actors. Meaney shines as Ray, fully utilizing his knack for portraying bitterly miserable characters, which allows the audience to both despise and empathize with Ray simultaneously. Meanwhile, Keoghan adds another endearing yet flawed character to his repertoire with his sensitive portrayal of Jack.
